John Wesley UMC offers Sunday School for all ages on Sunday mornings from 9:00 a.m. through 10:00 a.m. This fall our Children’s classes began The Deep Blue Bible Adventure Series study. The children also spend part of their hour with our Director of Music where they enjoy learning traditional Sunday School songs and hymns as well as new ones from the curriculum.
Our Youth curriculum is Bible Lessons 4 Youth. Confirmation Classes led by the senior pastor are offered as needed.
During worship we welcome all children to stay with their parents in the sanctuary. However, children under the age of 3 may be taken to the Nursery. Children ages 3 through 3rd grade are invited to attend Just Kids Church. All of our programs are staffed by volunteers who have passed our Safe Sanctuary certification.
In addition to traditional Sunday School lessons, our children and/or youth participate in the life of the church by:
- Helping with the Lenten Luncheon program
- Volunteering at the REACH homeless shelter
- Enjoying an “egg-siting” Easter event
- Singing about once a month in worship
- Presenting a Christmas pageant during Advent
- Sharing during worship “What We Learned in Sunday School.”
- Combining for special Sunday School programs with themes such as John Wesley and Our Church Heritage, Earth Day, Communion Breads from Around the World, and an Advent Cookie and Craft morning.
- Participating in lock-ins
- Setting up for Mummers’ parade guests
- Having fun at pizza/game nights
- Snow tubing at Whitetail
They may take an active part in the worship service by serving as an acolyte, crucifer, reader or choir member and usually have an annual Youth Sunday. Some of our youth help in the Church Nursery, Church Gardening and Service Days and/or are being mentored in Altar Guild duties and the seasonal decorating of our beautiful Sanctuary!
The congregation of John Wesley United Methodist Church is very service oriented. Our young people learn by the example set by the congregation and each month are encouraged in their Sunday School classes to participate in a service project. Recently they have supported Heifer International, Raise the Roof, UMCOR’s flood bucket drives, The Board of Child Care Christmas Stocking campaign, collected soup and socks for Holly Place and REACH, and made cards for those who are ill or shut-in. Each year they have also been a part of church-wide collections of school supplies, food for Holly Place and Micah’s Backpack, as well as Thanksgiving Food Baskets and Christmas gifts for families in need in our community.
We invite you to join us and experience a Sunday School Class that is bursting with love as the young people of John Wesley UMC are taught and nurtured using Bible study, scripture, prayer, drama, music, games and crafts by dedicated teachers to become Disciples for Christ!
