The members of Susanna Circle walked in the Breast Cancer Awareness Step ‘n Stride 5 mile walk. The day was perfect for the middle of October; the air crisp, the trees colored as only God can do, the fellowship was spectacular with such a high level of positive energy. For sure God has blessed the effort. Over one hundred breast cancer survivors were there for a group photo and most of them walked. Some where still undergoing treatment while many others were multi-year survivors. Hugs were the greeting of the day. Men wore pink wigs. Dogs were decorated in pink. There were banners, balloons and pompoms waving. The walk trail was lined with flags honoring and memorializing past breast cancer patients. Our members wore pink shirts and proudly carried a banner with the words, “John Wesley Cares”. It was decorated with over 50 ribbons containing the names of people who have touched our hearts and who have had breast cancer. The purpose of the walk was to raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness – Cumberland Valley. Not only did Susanna Circle walk representing John Wesley Church but we raised $1560 through the generosity of John Wesley Church members and friends. This made our total the ninth highest among registered groups. At this point it looks like our total may still grow. This is the fourth year for our participation and we are planning to be there for many years to come.
Breast Cancer Awareness – Cumberland Valley has so many programs to ensure that no breast cancer patient is alone in their struggle. There are support groups, wigs and hats and turbans, and community angels who remind the patients that they are not alone. After surgery and during treatment dinners are available. The office can supply information to help patients understand what is happening and treatment options. This staff knows first hand what physical and psychological stresses occur at this time for families and do everything to make the journey easier. Just under $200,000 was raised that day to go a long way to make things happen in our area for breast cancer patients. Because of the generosity and support of Breast Cancer Awareness – Cumberland Valley indeed no patient has to go on the journey alone or has to forgo treatment because of financial need.
Being a part of the Step ‘n Stride walk puts us in touch with the many blessings we have all received and affords us the opportunity to repay the kindnesses some of our friends have been shown.
If ever there was a time that an event was blessed, it was this day. May we all be a part of other events which share such positive energy that only God can generate. Many thanks!
Blessings to all,
The members of Susanna Circle, John Wesley Church
