Missions

Serving (mission work) is one of the keys to a well-rounded relationship with Jesus.  John Wesley UMC is a church in mission.

The mission statement of the Service Team is to provide opportunities to grow in Christian Service.

The Advance Special number for Japan relief is #3021317, put this number in the memo field on your check if you want to make a donation through John Wesley.  You can click here to follow the United Methodist News feed. Online donations can be made to Pacific Emergency, UMCOR Advance #3021317.

Every other month, join the Service Team for breakfast in the Social Hall at 8:00 a.m. followed by a work project opportunity.  We alternate between work in the community and work on small projects around the church.  Last fall we stripped and waxed floors at the REACH Cold Weather Shelter, we gardened at Holly Place and we helped a church member catch up on yard maintenance.  Ongoing projects around the church include plastering, closet cleaning and painting (inside and out).

In a typical year groups within John Wesley UMC identified needs in the following local and global settings and collects over $50,000 in donations!  When we surveyed mission giving through John Wesley we found donations to African Children’s Fund, Altar Guild Scholarship, American Red Cross, Board of Child Care, Boy Scouts, Suzanne Porter (the missionary with whom JWUMC maintain a covenant relationship), Camp Harmison, CASA, Christian Education Day, , Community Action Council, CROP, Family Crisis Center, Free Clinic, Friends of Reeder, Global Ministries – Puerto Rico, Goodwill, Habitat, Heart ‘N Hand – WV, Heifer Project, Interfaith Housing of Western Maryland, John Wesley Day Nursery Scholarship, John Wesley Scholarship Fund, Kozovo, Local Food Banks, North Carolina Floor Relief, Parent Child Center, Potato Project, Prayer and Self-Denial, REACH Cold Weather Shelter, REACH, Inc., Salvation Army, San Mar, Shenandoah
